What is Fencing?
Fencing is an exciting non-contact combat sport that is an excellent way to tone up, lose weight, improve your cardiovascular fitness and classes give you the opportunity to meet a bunch of really great people!
You can start fencing with any of the three weapons, Epee: exciting and easiest to learn. Foil: speedy and stylish. Sabre: fast and furious.
Fencing is an individual and team sport, in which the fencer develops skills that allow them to score with the accuracy of a marksman, the control and suppleness of a gymnast and the speed of an Olympic sprinter. A fencer must be able to analyse situations and make split second decisions, time after time.
Fencing improves cardiovascular fitness, hand-eye coordination, balance, concentration, flexibility, confidence and social life!
How do I start fencing?
The best way to start fencing in London! One Two Six Fencing Club offers great beginnners' courses that cater especially for those with no previous fencing experience. Our experienced coaches offer personal tuition to guide new fencers through the basic fencing moves, and on to applying those techniques to fighting on the electric scoring apparatus within the first few weeks of picking up a weapon!
One Two Six is a friendly club where fencers can train at Epee, and also learn Foil and Sabre.
One Two Six Fencing Club is open to adults and children over 11 years old, making it the perfect activity for parents and their children to enjoy together.
Head Coaches are British Team members and Commonwealth Medallists, Jo Maynard and Marc Bengry who have 40 years' fencing experience between them. Jo was also the fencing double for Bond Girl Rosamund Pike (Miranda Frost) in the recent Bond Movie 'Die Another Day'.

One Two Six Fencing Club Mission Statement
Our mission at One Two Six Fencing Club is to make fencing available to a broad range of people, and to guide them in their leisure or competitive fencing careers as they start to learn how addictive and exhilirating fencing can be. Our priority is to provide top quality coaching in a friendly environment, with a high level of commitment and enthusiasm from our coaches. We are dedicated to expanding 'grass roots fencing' and our squad of competitive Junior fencers, especially in the run up to the London 2012 Olympics.
Epee: Taught by Commonwealth Medallists Jo Maynard and Marc Bengry, Epee is the closest to duelling that fencing gets! Score hits anywhere on your opponents body with the point of the weapon. The easiest weapon to start fencing with. Beginner sessions are always available. Courses are constantly starting in our three venues in South West and Central London, please contact us for details of the next beginner fencing course. Private Epee Lessons also availble.
Foil: Developed as the training weapon for the duelling rapier (the Epee), the foil has more complicated rules than Epee, designed to teach the fencer to hit their opponent without being hit themselves. Commonwealth Medallist and One Two Six Coach Marc Bengry can offer Foil Lessons at club. Private Foil Lessons also availble.
Sabre: developed from the cavalry Sabre, hits are scored above the waist with the cutting edge of the blade. Fencers can try Sabre with Jo Maynard who is taking sabre coaching guidance from British Olympic Sabre coach Peter Frohlich and Gabor Bognar, one of the best fencing coaches in the world. Private Sabre Lessons also availble.

What should i bring to my first fencing lesson?
All equipment hire is included, however you must wear long tracksiut trousers, tshirt and trainers (squash shoes are ideal as they hace a thin sole). It is also important to bring a bottle of water with you. Your fencing lessons are thirsty work!
Do I have to be super-fit to fence?
You do not have to be fit for your first fencing lesson. Fencing is a very technical sport and the first lessons will be primarily learning these techniques and learning how to score points in a fight.
You will find that fencing improves your fitness very quickly as you start to apply the techniques you have learned to energetic fights. There is absolutely no age limit when starting to fence. Our coaches at One Two Six have taught fencers ranging in age from 3 years to 80 years!
Corporate Entertainment Fencing Events:
The fencing coaches at One Two Six Fencing Club have also recently organised several very successful corporate entertainment events, where participants were guided through the basics of fencing and then competed against each other in a friendly team competition.
For more information or to arrange a corporate event for your company, please go to the 'Corporate Entertainment' page.
